Question Do one really land a plum job with a salary of $100K++ with an MBA??

Is a specialised masters degree in Finance or Marketing enough?

While on the job, one can take up short vocational courses in accounting or corporate strategy just to brush up on things rather than doing a full fledged MBA right? Or does an MBA really help one land that dream job with a great salary?

Any opinions/experience on this?

thanks!

If you have an extensive relevant work experience, and complement with a MBA, then yes, it is possible.

If you are just in your early years of career, your best chance is to apply to some investment banks for their MBA, associate program.

And i am indicating that MBA complements best on one who has years of work experience. In this case, the individual may progress the corporate ladder faster.

If you dont have years of work experience, yet you want to make good use of your MBA, then you can apply for the MBA associate program of those Investment banks. This path is the fastest to achieve high salary.

I've got 6 years worth of experience - so it's not extensive. Does one need to work in the finance sector or with an investment bank to qualify for one of these MBA associate programmes?

Its obvious that you have mis-understood my statement.

MBA Associate Program is a recruiting program used by investment banks. Such program aims to attract MBA Graduate to join their bank. Suggest you take a look at some investment banks website (i.e.merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse) to understand what i mean.

Investment Banks are very strict in their selection for MBA grads into their Associate Program. And selection are normally very competitive. Success rate depends on individual's merits, although some of the investment banks only prefer and recruit MBA grads from top unis. Go to some investment banks website for more info.
