Default Perth becoming a fun city?

Well, I've been debating on whether studying in Perth is a good idea. I've mostly heard that it's boring compared to the larger east coast cities, but the biggest reason I know of is because the shopping laws in Perth are that most shops have to close by 5 or 6 during weekdays. But next year, the shopping laws will allow shops to be open until 9, so I've read. So will that make night and social life more appealing in Perth? Also, I've heard the opposite from people who actually studied there, saying that people are wrong about it being a boring place, but I guess it depends on the person. I'm from a small town in the southeast of the US, so anything could be exciting for me.

If you are from a small town then Perth will be fine for you. The main thing is you make a core group of friends in your course or studying at the uni or other unis. Then you make your own fun with this group, just the same as you would in a larger city.

Having a small group of supportive, fun friends in a small city is much more enjoyable than having no friends in an 'exciting' city.

hmm.. some shops in sydney dont open pass the 5 or 6pm mark as well even though there is no shopping hour restrictions

There are some form nightlife in perth like pubs and nice eating outlets. And there are supermarkets that open till 10pm in the suburb. So it isnt that bad afterall, although the nightlife places are indeed lesser scale than that in sydney.
