Exclamation MPA (EXT) Vs MPA

Hi Guys!
I have just finished my bachelors of Business in tourism & Hospitality & I'm looking forward to study masters in Accounting. My aim is to get a professional qualification ie: CPA or CA and would like to know what difference it would make if i considered MPA instead of MPA(ext)?

I would appreciate if any one can tell me what is the difference between the MPA(ext) offered by Macquarie university and UTS? Both are accredited by CPA.

HI!

First- MPA in Macquarie Uni. consists of 13 units as compared to 19(13+6CPA) units in MPA(CPA Extension)

Second-MPA is a 1.5 year course, MPA (CPA) is a 2.5 year in Macquarie.

Third-If u do MPA (CPA) from Uni. ,there is a better chance of scoring good marks in CPA exams.

Sooner or later u'll be doing CPA or CA,so in my personal view ,u should do it after completing ur MPA without any gap in ur studies,as ur still in touch with ur MPA knowledge.
I know people who left the CPA for later years, they just do 1 unit per semester ,however if you do it through Uni,u'll b doing 3units/semester.Yups but it would cost you more as u need to pay the Uni for the course preperation.

Fourth-You become an Associate member of CPA Australia when you enrol in CPA units and wouldn't face any problem in your degree assessment when you'll be applying for PR in case if ur an international student and if u decide to do so.
Being a member u get the assessment in a week,it takes 2-3 months to those who are not the members.

Fifth-MPA is a bit tough ,however the six units of CPA and CPA exams are relatively easy and u can score gud marks improving your GPA.

keep the 2 year study rule in mind while deciding.if you have any plans for PR.

CHEERS.

Hey!
Appreciate your response. I had a simillar view as it would be wise to study MPA cpa ext and straight away work towards CPA's professional membership.
I wonder if students need to study any extra subjects after completing MPA CPA ext to finish off with the professional level for CPA?
Having no background in accounting I'm a concerned as to how my performance would be if I enroll for MPA CPA ext at Macquarie as what I heared from several students out there that the fail rate at Macquarie is relatively high.

BAKWASS !! There are 2-3 subjects in Accounting, no matter where you go, you will find it harder. It depends on you how you study, no teacher wants his/her students to be failed. While I was studying in UTS, in couple of subjects the fail rate was 30-40% but i got through in every subjects. So, eventually all depends on your background of the subject and how you study. DNT listen to others.

Hey Broken_Wings!
Thanks for filling me up with the info. In your reply you have mentioned that you studied at UTS. Can you tell me how is the finance faculty there at UTS?
I'm still struggling to decide wether to take accounting or Finance for my masters. I was more inclined towards finance as i want to do CFA in future.
But at the back of this I do need to study certain subjects of accounting to satisfy the skills requirments for immigration purpose. Some suggested me to do Masters in Accounting & Finance (1.5 yrs) and add up few extra accounting subjects to make it 2 yrs. Wonder if its possible? Doing so would satisfy both my wants and skills requirments for Immigration.

Cheers!
