congrats !
broken_wings
did you apply re-check in just one module or all four of them ?
thanks mate.
i applied for all four of them and i think it helped. Because when a examiner sees that you got more than 7 in 3 sections but missed out marginally in 1 section, then i guess, they show some pity on students. :)
i would suggest, even though you missed out in 1 section, you better apply for recheck in all four sections because they cant reduce marks other than increasing it ! so why not take a chance ! :)
best of luck mate for future !
cheers !

i recently gave my IELTS test and scored
Speaking: 8.5
Listening: 8.5
Reading: 7.5
Writing: 6
i'm very disappointed and i'm thinking of giving it for rechecking. does it help? is there any chances of getting 7 in my writing?

if you are confident of getting 7 in writing, then you better apply for recheck. I would suggest you to recheck all four bands because you have got good bands in others. so seeing that, examiner may consider to increase writing score...who knows !
best of luck ! :)

Hi
It's true that you cannot get a lower band score when you apply for a remark, and so the only risk in asking for a remark is that your score comes back the same and you lose your money.
However, the examiner who looks at your writing will not know the other scores that you got in any of the skills (because this could influence their mark for your writing), and so this should not be the reason that you decide to get a remark.
My advice is that you think about whether or not you completed both tasks, answered the questions in full, organised and linked your ideas clearly, and used a range of grammar and vocabulary accurately.
If you did, then you should consider getting a remark.
You could also compare your writing to the example answers in the Cambridge IELTS series of past papers (e.g. Cambridge IELTS 7); in these books the example answers are given band scores by certified examiners.
In that way, you'll get an idea of whether or not your writing is good enough.
Good luck,

thanx Pete...i think i did pretty well in writing this time coz when i gave the test last time i scored 7 in writing and the lady at the test centre told me to attach the previous certificate while giving for rechecking to show that i scored higher marks before just to increase my chances i guess... i'm going for rechecking anyway and i hope they increase it to 7.

Hello friends! My name's Ryan and I just got my IS Academic result today.
Listening 7
Reading 8.5
Writing 6
Speaking 6
I'm not satisfied with my writing and speaking tasks as I must get at least 7 in all skills. I made good essay and graph. Speaking was fine, in my opinion.
Do you guys suggest me to recheck it again? How much money do I have to pay for it? Where can I make this thing ? Is it worth?
Please help me........

You need to read academic articles as much as possible. After reading all these articles you will be able to describe tables, graphs, charts etc fluently with no any thinking. Also, try to make critical analysis of any statement, it's what all the articles actually about! Writing is more intuitive than "know-how-to-write". Good luck!

guys what do you think about my chances of increasing my writing band score from 6.5 to 7 after my remark? i really hope they give it to me because we are only talking about 0.5 difference and a huge fee for retaking the whole thing. :) im hoping for the best for i only need 7.0 to move on. ill post the outcome of my remark after 6-8 weeks.

Ryansoe,
Did you apply for a remark after all? I have just got similar result as yours:
L: 8.5
R: 7.5
W: 6.5
S: 6.5
And dont know whether I should ask for a recheck either?
About the fee: I think here in Australia you have to pay 140 up for remark. And you can get the application in your test center.
I am personally more inclined to the idea of rechecking since as Pete said the examiner rechecking each section wont know about our scores in the others, so there will be hopefully no chance that they will increase the mark in one, say, W, then keep the S unchanged to make up for the round up part in W in case we are in the middle of 6.5 and 7.
Hopefully it wont be too late to be useful for you!

IELTS is a money making business!!!! Because of its inconsistency across the board, sometimes I wonder if it is a money making business or not. Opps, change of mind, I DON'T wonder, I know it is!!! Sorry guys but this IELTS system is a load of big time crap and I hate to see what they are doing to you all. Good luck, hope you will get all your 7s and above

Results and all recheck enquiries must be made via the IELTS administrator and reach based and pen and paper based. IELTS Specimen Materials are sample,
With the writing and speaking modules, however, there is a greater possibility that your score may change if re-marked. Check your "Post IELTS Test Notes".

Good to find forum on IELTS recheck/ remark.
I got following score :
L:8.5

S:8.5
W:7
I am looking for 8 in each module and hence would be applying for re-evaluation in Writing module.
With writing I guess its pretty tricky as its hard to get feedback during the practice.

Hi guys,
I sat for my general exam on the 13th of August 2011 and received my results just today.
Listening - 8
Reading - 8
Writing - 6.5 :O
Speaking - 8
i expected 8 for writing, 7 for speaking and 8.5 for reading. The results are quite shocking coz i got
Writing - 8
Speaking - 6
three years back for an academic paper. I know I'm pretty good in writing. I am usually worried about my speaking coz I stammer when I'm nervous and am self-conscious abt it.
I need 8 in all modules to apply for PR in Australia but since i got married recently, some of my mates told me that i'll get 5 points for 'partner skills' so i need only get 7 in each module.
Anywayz i decided to apply for remarking all 4 modules. Will let u guys know what happens.

I'm pretty sure that you would have your writing remarked to 7.0. But about your speaking, I don't think so.
At any rate, it's 160 bucks and worth a try?

Hi,
I would like to request few people here that if you don't have proper information then please don't post the same. I am making this statement as someone told that Speaking band can't be changed on Enquiry on Results(EOR). this is certainly not true.
I had the following score on the exam held on 9th July
L-8.5
R-8.5
W-7
S-6.5
I applied EOR immediately and got results yesterday and guess what my speaking band changed from 6.5 to 7. that is what I wanted.
All people need is little hope which I got from somewhere and applied for EOR and if you take away that hope then people might not do what was good for them.
I hope people take it in right spirit.

Hi Nitasha,
I am from Bangalore,India but I am in New York,US for last 2.5 years.
I am yet to get my updated Test report form from my test centre but I got a letter stating my band increase last week so I am hopeful that I will get my TRF today.
I would say that it all depends upon how you feel you have done in the exam as you are the best judge. After giving my exams I was confident of the followings
L-8+
R-8+
W-7 or 7.5
S-7
but I got the following
L-8.5
R-8.5
W-7
S-6.5
So I immediately went for Enquiry on Results. I guess it is very uncommon in US to go for remarking. I say this because I am having tough time in getting my updated TRF as very less people apply for remark and till not from my test center there were no band improvements so they are unable to follow the process to reprint my updated Test Report form.
I hope this much of information help you to make you an informed decision. There is no harm in remarking barring the time spent like 10-12 weeks.
Cheers

Dear all,
I have recently received the following results for Academic IELTS :
R - 8.5
L - 8.5
W - 9.0
S - 7.5
As I needed a minimum of a band 8.0 in all categories, I took the test another time.
R - 9.0
L - 8.0
W - 8.5
S - 7.5
I felt really frustrated and am contemplating applying for a remark. The problem is, has anybody have any experience or encourage me to go for a remark, considering that I am asking for an increment from 7.5 to 8.0?
I've seen many of the posts and increments from 6.5 to 7 is aplenty, and I guess it is reasonable for there to be some form of subjectivity between grading a band 6.5 and a band 7.0 candidate. But would it be dumb to hope for an increase from 7.5 to 8?
I hope you get my gist... I am having doubts asking for a remark because I'm asking for an 8. It might be harder than asking for a 7 (from a 6.5).
My second question is - should I apply for a remark for both tests? That way, the examiners can see that I have clearly had high scores for all modules except the speaking, and they would be more inclined to improve my speaking scores to a band 8.
Please advise.

Did you apply in Aus? I am really so worried and i desperately need an increase.
once again thanks for your support
I did it in my hometown via the local British Council?
They replied me in 8 weeks.

if you are confident of getting 7 in writing, then you better apply for recheck. I would suggest you to recheck all four bands because you have got good bands in others. so seeing that, examiner may consider to increase writing score...who knows !
best of luck ! :)
Hi,
I appealed for recheck in my 3rd IELTS Exam where i scored only 6.5 in both Writing and Speaking. But, I got my result after my 4th Exam and there was no change in my previous result after recheck!
Now, in my 4th attempt the result of Writing and Speaking is same i.e, 6.5!
In Listening and Reading, the bands are 8.5 and 8.0 respectively!
Oh, I don't know what should I do now!
Should I appeal for recheck again? (I felt that I did much better in writing!) But.... :,(
I need band 7 in all 4 modules!
Please advice me!!

Go for it. They will increase it by 0.5 I reckon.
I took your advise Black Rider; raised an EOR for Writing and now waiting for the results .
How long does it usually take for the results to come back ; any idea?

It is said that they would take 6-8 weeks but i got my recheck result in 10th week (since the day i posted it). Though i'm in England, it tool me such a long time...but it might be due to Christmas time! (actually,I was pretty optimistic as i assumed that they might increase my score as the examiner would be in holiday mood!)

Dear all,
I have recently received the following results for Academic IELTS :
R - 8.5
L - 8.5
W - 9.0
Dear Grimm,
Sorry for the disappointing phase you are also going through!
Since you have such a high score in Writing, Please...please advice us some good sources and books for Writing module!
Also share us some tips for both Writing and Speaking!
Your suggestions will be highly appreciated!
Cheers!

Hi everyone,
I need you feedbacks or help on this topic, please reply.I appeared for my first IELTS academic test and got the following scores listening(7.5), reading(6.0), Writing(6.5) and Speaking(6.5). My IELTS result expired and i decided to do the academic test again and got the following scores listening(8.5),reading(6.5), writing(6.5) and speaking(5.5). I was shocked to see that i scored only 5.5 in speaking.Considering the fact that i scored 6.5 in speaking in the first test, i am thinking of remarking my speaking score. So i would like to ask the following question:
1)will my score in speaking improve from 5.5 to 6.0(that is what i need)
2)should i go for remarking in all four modules or should i just apply for speaking module.
3)how long does it usually take to get your remarked results?(i am short of time, i read that it usually takes 6-8 weeks)
Please post your genuine feedbacks, i would really appreciate your help. Thanks

1) There can be fluctuations in the scores every next time we take test!
So, if you are confident that you did better then you can take risk!
2) Since we don't have to pay extra bucks, you can request for rechecking of other modules as well.
3) It took me over 9 weeks to get my rechecked mark-sheet and sadly, there was no change!

Hi,
I would like to hear from anyone who applied from Sydney and got their remarking results.
Did the test centre send email to you once your remark application is processed and ready to be mailed? Please advise.
Also, it would be great if you could let me know the processing time and the result.
Nitasha - I could see you are from Sydney. Appreciate if you could provide your info.
Kind Regards,

Hi folks,
I read most of your comments & replys about IELTS re-evaluation. After reading all of your threads, I persume there is no consistency whether they would increse our bands or not. I am so stressed out these days. I have no idea what to do. I have a very less time to stay here and waiting for my IELTS re-checking results back.
Here is my past two results:
Test Date (10/03/2012) L -7.0 R -6.5 W -5.5 S -7.0 (applied for re-check on 27th MArch)
Test Date (04/02/2012) L -7.0 R -5.5 W -7.0 S -7.0 (applied for re-check on 16th MArch)
I need atleast 6 each to support my application. I have probably a week left to submit my results. If anyone is also on the same boat then please share with me.
Thanks Guys....

Hurrey..
Thanks Blackrider for your advise.
My rechecking came back with an increment W (6.5->7).
My final score is R 8.5,L 8.5,S 8.5 W 7.
I can now apply for immigration.
My advise to fellow friends, if you are consistently scoring 8 plus in all the other modules except writing and were sure that you wrote as per expectations; you must go for rechecking.

Hi Maxjax,
Congrates! You are lucky!
Today i received my result and again....disappointed!
R:8, L:7.5, S:7.5, W:6.5
Did you tick all four sections (R,L,S,W) while requesting for recheck or..only the writing section? Should i request for only writing because i need min 7 band, and i have problem with writing only. Please suggest!

Hi everyone
I feel so sorry for myself at this moment. I wrote the IETLS academic test now for the second time in June. My first score was L 7, R 8.5, S 7, W 7, but I need a 8 for speaking and listening. So I wrote the test again and score a 8 for speaking and listening, a 9 for reading and a disappointing 6.5 for writing. And I need a 7 for writing. I want to teach and now they don't want to accept my marks, because of the 6.5 for writing. Just don't understand how I got a lower score the second time I wrote the test. Do you think I should ask for a remark for writing?

Hi there! I needed the following scores for my Registration as a Nurse in Manitoba.
W- 7
R- 6.5
S- 7
L- 7.5
OBS no less 7 Academic Module
I took the June 9 exam, my scores were;
W-6.5
R-7
S-8.5
L-8.5
OBS-7.5
A lot of candidates in my batch were given the same 6.5 ONLY in WRITING.
I paid for the RECHECKING.

Hi,
To those of you who are wondering if they should go for the remarking of IELTS script. There are few things that you should take note of…
Firstly, remarking of reading and listening are useless as they marked according to the specific answer to the questions .So, most likely the outcome would be the same.
For the writing part, it is marked and judge toughly on your content and language. Which each examiner could have different opinion reading your script. If anyone of you is wondering if the outcome really works…I can tell u that it really does. I took the test few months back and received the writing result of band 5.5. I certainly thought I definitely did better so I sent it for remarking. It came back with an increased in 0.5 and an overall grade of 6.0.
I do understand that the price for remaking is very high but for those of you who believed that they deserved a better mark, I urge you to try for the remark. Who knows you might get lucky and the good thing is they will refund you the full amount if there are changes to your marks.so, you wouldn’t need to stress and take the exams again.

Hi all,
I just got my IELTs scores today through online access, and now I feel very depressed . I have got L 8.0, R 8.0, W 6.5, S 8.0 and Overall 7.5 It was my first attemp, and I did not think I could get 7.5 overall. However, I do need 7 scores each for PR application. I am just not sure if I should apply for remark. The writing session that I did was not perfect. I did finish the letter nicely, but the essay was done just in time. Eventhough I had include the intro, body and conclusion, but the word count was very limited. I dont know if I would have any luck to upgrade the mark by 0.5, as I am afraid that there is no chance to get band 7 for low word count. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No, I didn't get a higher mark. You wait for 2 months and you have no prove that they actually looked at your test. It is just a money making thing. This test is not fair or consistent. I wrote it already three times and every time I got different scores.

Dear All
I did IELTS in AUSTRALIA and I had to take 12 IELTS tests to get each band 7. I achieved my best results in 12th attempt as follows:
L-8, R-7.5, W-7.5, S-8
In my previous 11 attempts, I applied for re-marking several times but my results remain unchanged
This is the summary of my attempts,
11th- L-7, R-7, W-6.5, S-7.5 re-marked but results remain unchanged
10th- L-7.5, R-7.5, W-6.5, S-7.5 re-marked but results remain unchanged
9th- L-7, R-6.5, W-7, S-7.5
8th- L-8, R-8, W-6.5, S-6.5 re-marked but results remain unchanged
7th- L-6, R-7, W-6.5, S-8
6th- L-6, R-7, W-7, S-6
5th- L-7, R-6.5, W-6.5, S-7
4th- L-7.5, R-7, W-6.5, S-7 re-marked but results remain unchanged
3rd- L-7, R-6.5, W-6, S-6
2nd- L-7, R-6.5, W-6, S-7.5
1st- L-6.5, R-6.5, W-6, S-6.5
It took about 1 year for me to improve my results from OVERALL BAND 6.5 to 8.0 and WRITING BAND 6.0 to 7.5. I wrote more than 200 essays and get them corrected .
So you can realize the what a difficult period that I passed to get each band 7 in Australia. In my opinion re-marking is a waste of money.
I would highly recommend you to not believe in re-marking because I did WRITING and SPEAKING really well in my 8th attempt. I expected an increment at least in my SPEAKING band because with my IELTS experience I knew what I did but unfortunately that didn't happen.
So, If you could deliver your best with more confidence, you would get what you deserved.
My suggestions to improve your skills
Writing
Write as much as possible error free sentences with some complex sentence structures.
Address topic reverent and to cover each part of question
If you are keep getting band 6.5 as in my case, you should check your essays and letters from a qualified teacher, which I did from this service http://www.ielts-blog.com/check-your-ielts-writing/#order-form
That helps me to identify my mistakes.
Speaking
You should speak confidently using some good vocabulary relating to each questions.
Don't forget to use some fillers, which shows you are natural.
Listening and Reading
This will improve with you practice.
Please remember nothing is impossible!!!!! Especially IELTS each BAND 7.
ALL the best
Madusha
